Nature Is Speaking

Nature Is Speaking. Are You Listening?

Nature is speaking to us every day, and it is high time to listen.

Our planet Earth exists for about 4.5 billion years. Earth has provided an optimal environment for life to thrive. From bacteria to cells, plants, animals and us human beings, Earth has always been generous. I believe that our planet is alive, just like you and I, and this is the reason why I also like to call it “Gaia”. Originally, in mythology, Gaia is the name of the primal Greek Mother Goddess, great mother of all that exists, creator and giver of birth to the Earth and the Universe. This name was revived in the late 70’s by scientist and environmentalist James Lovelock in his book “Gaia: A New Look at Life on Earth”. Lovelock’s hypothesis proposes that living organisms and inorganic material are part of a dynamical system that shapes the Earth’s biosphere, and maintains the Earth as a fit environment for life. If you look a bit around you, you will easily see that nature is organized in a precise and harmonious way.
However, lately, with the global economic development and the world population growth accelerating, this harmonious organization has severely been disrupted…

In 2015, the world population has reached more than 7.35 billion people and its growth looks exponential… Gaia has always provided us with what was necessary for us to live and thrive, including the most essential element: water. If you think that things will always remain the same on our planet, then you should read the following lines…

Today, the world population consumes more than 1.5 times what our planet’s natural resources can continue to provide. In 2015, “Earth Overshoot Day” which symbolizes the day when humanity’s annual demand for goods and services officially exceeds what the planet is able to regenerate fell on August 13th, which is 6 days earlier than in 2014. Each year, that day falls earlier and earlier. Everything happens before our own eyes… But the good news is we still can reverse this trend.

Every day, Gaia speaks to us and just like we have to listen to our inner voice, we have to listen to “her” messages. Let’s open our eyes and stop ignoring signs around us!

In this context, Conservation International organization has launched a great awareness campaign called: “Nature Is Speaking”.
A few celebrities, including Julia Roberts, Harrison Ford, Kevin Spacey, Edward Norton, Penélope Cruz and Robert Redford, have lent their voices to this project.

In this video, Julia Roberts is Mother Nature:

So, you got the point, nature doesn’t need us, but we need nature. We can always live as if we didn’t care but Gaia will still remain… Without us…

Regarding her involvement in this project, Julia Roberts says:
“I’ve always been an environmentalist, but my life changed the day I had children. I realized that I wasn’t doing enough to protect the planet. People need nature and of course I want my children to have the best possible opportunity in life. I also realized how important it was for me to raise them to be conscientious people that are aware of their impact on the Earth.”

How we live every day and our individual actions truly have consequences on our planet…

Penélope Cruz about water:
“If we continue on the path we’re on, there simply won’t be enough fresh water for everyone. […] I have seen water availability change drastically in my own lifetime. Around the world millions of people are already living in a true water crisis…”

She’s truly right about it… Water scarcity could bring Earth to a breaking point and in the future, you can easily imagine how people will be ready to “fight” for a small quantity of water… This water crisis is spreading all over our world, and not only in Africa, Asia or South America…

Last March, NASA declared that California had one year of water left… Now, emergency measures are being implemented to counter this… But you see, we can’t hide anymore.

It’s time to change our way of living and care a bit more about the world in general, not just us. Whether you want it or not, it’s there and it could come to you faster than you think…
Let’s all open our eyes and make little efforts every day! Even if scientists and engineers are working on finding solutions, simple things like not letting water run when you brush your teeth, or taking showers instead of bath will tremendously help. And I’m sure you already have other ideas…

Remember that we’re all connected, us human beings and Gaia… If we all change at an individual level, step by step the world will follow… And by the way, this is the exact purpose of Gaia Meditation.

We can make it and we will make it!

With Light & Love,

Stephane
